Extra - Statutory Prizes
RULES OF AWARDING THE EXTRA - STATUTORY PRIZES

I

The extra-statutory prizes are prizes provided by natural and legal persons (hereinafter called the "donors") independently of those specified in the Rules of the Sixteenth International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition and accepted by the Competition Director under § XVI of the Competition Rules.

The extra-statutory prizes may be offered in the form of:

  •  concerts
  •  money - a cheque made out by the donor
  •  a gift, e.g. a musical instrument, electronic equipment, an artwork, educational materials
  •  other, e.g. prizes relevant to the pianist's further training.

III

The Competition Director may refuse to accept a cash prize whose amount exceeds that of the statutory first prize specified in § XII of the Rules of the Sixteenth International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.

IV

The offer to donate a prize cannot indicate the name of the Competition participant to be awarded the prize.

V

Offers to donate a prize, indicating the title to the prize which is in conformity with the Rules of Awarding the Extra-Statutory Prizes, should be submitted in writing to the Director of the Competition no later than 30 September 2010 to the following address:

The submission of an offer is tantamount to accepting the Rules of Awarding the Extra-Statutory rizes.

VI

Extra-statutory prizes may be awarded according to:

  •  artistic criteria explicitly resulting from the Jury's verdict, e.g. for the winner of a concrete statutory prize, for the best stage I, II or III participant who failed to qualify for the consecutive round
  •  explicit non-artistic criteria, e.g. for the youngest or the oldest participant in stage I, II, III, in the final or in the entire Competition, for the highest-score winner representing the country indicated by the donor.

VII

The Competition Director will make the decision whether to accept the offered prize and will communicate his decision to the donor. The Director's decisions are final and incontestable. Once the offered prize has been accepted the offer becomes an irrevocable promise to award the prize in line with the principles specified in the offer and in these Rules, and the Competition organiser is authorised to make the donor's promise public.

VIII

Prizes may be awarded to Competition participants only.

Prizes will not be awarded to the candidates who ook part in the preliminary stage but failed to qualify or the Competition.

IX

The Competition Director will inform the donor which Competition participant meets the prize criteria and the donor will undertake to award the prize to the indicated participant.

X

The sole responsibility for awarding the prize and for all obligations arising thereof rests with the donor.

The organiser will bear no responsibility whatsoever for awarding the prize and for the obligations arising hereof.

XI

The prizes will be presented at an official meeting of the donors and the Competition participants who will receive the prizes, to be held by the Competition organiser on 22 October 2010.
The list of the awarded participants and the donors will be made public via the mass media available to the Competition organiser.
